Politician sticks foot in mouth
We find the things some politicians say absolutely ridiculous. I think this man’s words can speak for themselves. Read them here.

With so many news events this week, we thought it would be helpful to do a weekly recap. Here are some of the important events we want you to remember:
1. The Bill to mandate research on the effects of violent video games dies in the Senate but will return when a new session starts at the end of the month
2. Heads of the gaming industry met with the Vice President on Thursday to discuss video gaming and new policies to be introduced to the president next week regarding gun control, violence, regulations, etc.
3. Penny Arcade recently discussed violent games in their PA Report, link below. They found that the research behind finding a connection between video game violence and aggressive behavior is subjective, rather than objective science. They also comment that parents need to be more involved with their child and the games that they allow their child to play in order to judge how the video games affect their individual child. Lastly, they remind us that the Supreme Court ruled in 2011 that video games are protected under the 1st amendment, yet Senators – including Rockefeller – continue to attack them as the scapegoat for aggressive behavior.
4. On Saturday, Aaron Swartz, was found dead in his apartment. Aaron co-founded Reddit and Demand Progress, a website that devotes itself to informing the public about possible infringement on internet freedoms. We consider Demand Progress to be a valuable resource and partner in the fight for gamers’ rights and join their community in expressing our deepest condolences to his family. To read more about his celebrated life and his death, please see the link below. We can think of no better way of honoring his work than to continue it in his stead. We will continue to fight for our freedoms and against injustice.

All gamers and game developers deserve an equal voice, and League For Gamers serves and fosters the interests of the gaming community. Founded by Red 5 Studios CEO Mark Kern after his disappointment with the lack of representation by groups like the ESA and VGVN, LFG has spearheaded petitions and protests against unfair legislation, such as SOPA/PIPA and the Oklahoma Video Game Tax. After withdrawing from E3 in light of the ESA’s SOPA/PIPA stance, Red 5 Studios donated the funds that were going to be used at the convention to kick start League For Gamers.
We want to continue to inform gamers about issues that matter to them, and take our united message to Washington. Join League For Gamers, and make a difference in the future in gaming and the internet!
According to an article on CNET, Hawaii’s Legislature is slated to discuss a bill which would require ISPs to keep track of your browsing history for 2 years. Reading the bill, the term ISP is so broad that anyone providing a wireless access point would be required to log this history. Also, there is no provision for due process, encryption or any other safeguards on this information.
The bill is so shortsighted and simplistic that it really highlights the ignorance of our politicians on matters of the Internet…let alone our Constitution.
This doesn’t just affect Hawaii, as internet companies located outside of Hawaii, but who provide services there, are impacted. I would urge everyone to take action and e-mail the the main sponsor of the bill, John Mizuno, as well as Kym Pine, the minority leader who allegedly is the source for the idea. Respectfully ask them to withdraw such harmful litigation which would unduly burden internet companies and grossly violate our privacy.
